Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle with the current owners of Spanish club Eldense to become the majority shareholder of the LaLiga Hypermotion side.
The proposed deal would make the Argentine superstar the majority owner of a professional football club in Spain for the first time, following his acquisition of Unió Esportiva Cornellà a few months ago.
Eldense currently compete in LaLiga Hypermotion and have endured a difficult start to the season, collecting just two points.
The agreement could be completed in the coming days after the remaining legal and contractual procedures are concluded.
The process includes an extensive audit, known as “due diligence”, before the transaction can be finalised.
The deal will also require approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD) before it can be completed.
