Laycon has been crowned the winner of the fifth season of the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija. After 71 days in the house, the 26-year-old beat out competition from the other finalists Nengi, Dorothy, Vee and Neo to claim the whopping N85 million grand prize.

“I just came to promote my song,” Laycon joked, right before host Ebuka announced the winner. One his time in the house, he said: “I had to discover myself there…I discovered I could act…and dance.”

Laycon, whose real name is Olamilekan Agbeleshe is a singer and rapper from Lagos. A graduate of Philosophy from the University of Lagos, Laycon started his musical journey at an early age and has now emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising new acts. His song, ‘Fierce’ was on the Top Ten charts on MTV Base for six months.

The cheerful and affable Dorathy Bachor was the 1st runner up. Former model and MBGN Top 5 contestant, Nengi was third. Laycon’s win will come as no surprise to viewers. To many followers of the show, both ardent fans and casual observers, the favourites was always down to Laycon, Dorathy or Nengi.

This season saw Laycon dominate social media and gather the most votes when put up for eviction. His rocky relationship with disqualified housemate, Erica, his perceived intellectual prowess and his performance in tasks ensured he always had a spot on Twitter trends. His die-hard fans believe that he deserves the N85 million grand prize more than other contestants. And with his recent revelation of his genotype- he is SC- a few days ago, the support for him to clinch the coveted title soared tremendously.

The breakdown of the grand prize for BBNaija season five includes N30 million cash prize; a two-bedroom apartment, a top of the range SUV from Nigerian automaker, Innoson Motors, a trip to Dublin courtesy Guinness, home appliances courtesy Scanfrost and a trip to watch the UEFA Champions League final.
