Iran Threatens To Attack US Forces In Strait Of Hormuz After Trump Announced Plan To Guide Ships

Iran warns it will attack US forces in Strait of Hormuz as Trump plans mission to guide stranded ships

Iran has warned it will attack US forces entering the Strait of Hormuz after President Donald Trump announced plans to help stranded ships move through the waterway.

An estimated 20,000 seafarers on about 2,000 vessels have been stuck in the strait since fighting between the US and Iran began in February, according to a United Nations agency.

Trump said the US military would begin guiding ships from Monday, describing the move as a “humanitarian gesture”. He said many vessels were running low on food and supplies.

Iran’s military said it controls the strait and warned it would respond to any foreign presence.

It said it would attack “any foreign armed force” that tries to enter, “especially the aggressive US army”.

The warning raises the risk of renewed confrontation in the area, with concerns it could affect a ceasefire that has held for several weeks.

Reports suggest the US plan may not involve naval escorts. Instead, forces could advise commercial vessels on safe routes and remain nearby to deter attacks.

Meanwhile, Pakistan said 22 crew members on an Iranian ship seized by the US would be handed over to Iranian authorities.
