Frontline presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has stressed that he will not step down for any aspirant ahead of the party’s presidential primary, insisting that his ambition is driven by a clear vision for national development, economic transformation, and inclusive leadership.
He, however, said he would support whoever emerges as the party’s flag-bearer through a transparent and credible process, while reaffirming his commitment to offering Nigerians what he described as a credible alternative for the country’s future.
Speaking during a media chat with political editors in Abuja on Tuesday, Hayatu-Deen said: “I will not step down for anybody. However, whoever emerges as our flag-bearer through a transparent and credible process will have my full support.”
Addressing the issue of zoning in political parties, the ADC presidential aspirant argued that competence and capacity should take precedence over regional considerations.
Questioning the relevance of zoning to governance and national development, he asked: “How does zoning provide quality healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and ultimately improve the lives of citizens?”
Hayatu-Deen described the zoning debate as an elite-driven agenda that often divides people for the political and financial interests of a few.
“We should have moved beyond sentiments rooted in regionalism and tribalism. The responsibility of leadership is to improve the living conditions of the people and lift millions out of poverty,” he added.
The presidential aspirant further stated that governance should be centred on improving the quality of life of citizens through practical and people-oriented policies.
Hayatu-Deen also expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership for the country, citing his experience in the corporate world.
He added that he had developed an integrated rural development plan that combines farming, irrigation, and agro-processing, which, according to him, has the potential to lift millions of people out of poverty.
