The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, won the hearts of many Lagosians when he stormed the Magodo Phase 2 Estate, in a bid to dismiss police officers stationed there in what he described as an illegal operation.

A Chief Superintendent of Police, Abimbola Oyewole, who claimed to have been stationed at the estate on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, defied the Governor when he was asked to vacate the premises with his men.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, on Tuesday, admitted that the federal government is yet to gazette the order designating bandits as terrorists.

While speaking during a live interview, the AGF said that the federal government is trying to ensure that it operates within the confines of international best practices, and one of such is that you can only use maximum force on groups and individuals that are declared terrorists while referencing the application of the Terrorism Act.

The AGF went further to state, that Nigeria acted first, by proscribing the Indigenous People of Biafra, and Boko Haram, which in turn propelled the government to consider the proscription of bandits, and the use of military hardware against the insurgents.

On November 25th a federal high court in Abuja declared the activities of all bandit groups in the country as acts of terrorism. The AGF said his office will be gazetting the court order in a few days.

In a related development, reactions have trailed the killing of two notorious bandits Alhaji Auta and Kachalla Luga in Zamfara State.

The bandits were said to have been responsible for the abduction of many residents in the state.

Socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum on Monday, hailed the officers of the Nigerian Air Force that carried out the aerial bombardment of the bandit hideouts which neutralised the duo and many of their followers.
