Nigeria’s U15 boys, the Future Eagles, have drawn their opening two matches at the ongoing FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, scoring five goals and conceding five.
The Future Eagles played out a 2-2 draw with Jordan on Sunday morning, following a 3-3 stalemate against South Sudan on Saturday.
In their opening match, Patrick Bassey’s side came from behind twice against South Sudan before taking the lead, only to concede a late equaliser.
South Sudan scored first before Wisdom Boniface restored parity for Nigeria. The Sudanese side went ahead again, but captain Timothy Ogar levelled the score just before half-time.
Wisdom Oche then put Nigeria ahead in the second half. However, South Sudan scored less than a minute before the final whistle to secure a 3-3 draw.
Against Jordan on Sunday, both teams failed to score in the first period before Ogar gave Nigeria the lead in the second half.
Jordan equalised five minutes later and subsequently moved ahead, but Abdulrazak Muftau scored with the last kick of the match to earn the Future Eagles a 2-2 draw.
Nigeria are scheduled to face fellow West Africans The Gambia on Sunday evening before taking on Cyprus early on Monday morning. They will then meet Pakistan later on Monday afternoon.
The inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival is being played in an eight-a-side format, with matches consisting of two 20-minute halves.
Teams’ performances in the group stage will determine the tiers they enter in the second stage, scheduled for 28 and 29 October. The tier finals will take place on Friday, 30 October.
