Javier Mascherano has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36 after two UEFA Champions League titles, five LaLiga crowns, and five Copa del Rey trophies.

Mascherano is also the most capped player in Argentina’s history and made the statement in a press conference at his current club, Estudiantes.

Mascherano started his career at River Plate, made 147 appearances for his country, and played in the 2014 World Cup final.

He played for West Ham from 2006 to 2007, before signing for Liverpool where he featured in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan.

Mascherano played for Barcelona from 2010 to 2018 and then moved to Chinese club Hebei China Fortune.
