Over the weekend, occupants of illegal structures built on canals and drainage channels in the Ikota Area of the state were displaced, as the the Lagos State Government continued its demolition exercise in the area. According to Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, the ongoing operation is to reduce flooding and allow free flow of water along the drainage channel.

Videos posted on social media showed the moment the buildings were brought down by excavators, as occupants cried for help.
