England were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Ghana, as the African side’s defending and inspired goalkeeping denied Thomas Tuchel’s men a chance to seal qualification from Group L.
England completely dominated the tempo and possession against Ghana at Boston Stadium.
They controlled roughly 70% of the ball by heavily crowding the midfield. They had more chances and a sharp attacking display. Thomas Tuchel’s 4-2-3-1 system is keeping the game pinned inside Ghana’s half.
However, England is struggling to turn this tactical dominance into actual goals. Ghana has set up a stubborn, low-block 5-4-1 defensive wall that England cannot seem to break through. This setup has forced Ghana to abandon possession and rely purely on rare counter-attacks. Despite England’s relentless pressure, the match remains a scoreless deadlock as Ghana’s backup goalkeeper continues to hold firm.
In a desperate bid for a breakthrough, Tuchel executed a series of high-profile second-half substitutions, introducing Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Eberechi Eze. However, Ghana’s backup goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and a resolute backline held firm to deny the European heavyweights. While Ghana offered minimal threat on the counter-attack, their defensive masterclass successfully neutralized England’s frontline to split the points in Group L.
Following the 0-0 draw, both England and Ghana now turn their attention to pivotal final matchday fixtures to secure qualification from Group L. England will travel to MetLife Stadium on Saturday, June 27, to face Panama, where a victory will guarantee the Three Lions a spot in the knockout round. Simultaneously, Ghana will wrap up their group stage campaign against Croatia on Saturday, June 27.
