Burna Boy has set a new continental record, becoming the African artiste with the highest number of entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart after securing his ninth appearance on the ranking.
The Nigerian Afrofusion star, born Damini Ogulu, now leads fellow Nigerian Tems, who previously shared the record with him on eight entries.
His latest milestone comes through the song “Dai Dai”, the official track of the ongoing FIFA World Cup, which he recorded alongside Colombian pop superstar Shakira. The song debuted at number 75 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart, pushing Burna Boy into sole possession of the record.
The collaboration was initiated after Shakira expressed a strong desire to work with the Nigerian artiste. Speaking on the project, she said:
“It was very easy to come up with the melody, the lyrics, the concept, and then obviously when I had Burna Boy recorded, that was like the cherry on top. I always wanted to do something with Burna, and I think that his voice just takes it to another level.”
The pair also performed “Dai Dai” live at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony, further boosting its global reach and chart performance.
The achievement adds to Burna Boy’s growing list of Billboard Hot 100 appearances and cements his historic run as the first African artiste to chart at least one song on the Hot 100 for six consecutive years, spanning 2021 to 2026.
His entries on the chart now include:
- Loved By You (2021)
- Last Last (2022)
- Sittin’ On Top Of The World (2023)
- Talibans II (2023)
- Just Like Me (2024)
- We Pray (2024)
- WGFT (2025)
- Only You (2026)
- Dai Dai (2026)
The milestone further reinforces Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s most globally influential music exports, with sustained crossover success across multiple years.
