Arsenal and England forward Bukayo Saka is the focus of a new documentary that looks at his rise in football and the people around him.
The film, titled Bukayo Saka: The Time is Now, presents his journey from grassroots football in London to top-level club and international football. It highlights key moments in his career and the challenges he has faced.
The documentary includes conversations between Saka and former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry. Both discuss life in elite football, pressure on young players and the expectations that come with success.
Parts of the film were recorded in London, including at Saka’s childhood home in Ealing, where his football journey began.
The production also explores the role of close friends and family in his career. It features a message from Henry that supported Saka after England’s loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, where he missed a penalty.
Saka said the documentary gives him a chance to show a side of his life that is not often seen by the public.
“This film has given me the chance to tell my story in a way I never have before. People see the goals and the matches, but they don’t see what it takes behind the scenes,” he said.
The documentary is produced in partnership with Modern Arts and WhatsApp. It will stream on Disney+ in selected international markets and air on FOX in the United States.
Director Robert Alexander said the project captures open conversations between Saka and Henry about football and personal growth.
Jennie Morel, head of brand marketing at WhatsApp, said the film highlights both Saka’s career and the support system behind him.
