Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists have attacked Kautikari community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting schools on fire in the latest assault on education infrastructure in the region.
Security sources said the insurgents stormed Kautikari village at about 7 p.m. on Saturday and launched an attack targeting educational facilities in the community.
During the raid, the attackers reportedly set ablaze both the primary and secondary schools, causing extensive damage to public infrastructure.
The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of schools in Borno State, where educational institutions have remained targets of insurgent violence for years.
The incident comes less than a month after pupils were abducted from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area, raising fears about the continued threat posed to students and school communities across the state.
Kautikari, located in Chibok Local Government Area, has experienced repeated attacks by insurgents despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring security in the area. The community gained international attention following the 2014 abduction of schoolgirls from Chibok by Boko Haram, one of the most high-profile incidents linked to the insurgency in north-eastern Nigeria.
