Singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has emerged as Nigeria’s most streamed artiste, according to Spotify, which this week marked its fifth anniversary in the Nigeria. The announcement also highlighted top songs, user engagement, and overall listening trends, reflecting the massive growth of music streaming in Nigeria.
Spotify shared the milestone on Monday via its official social media accounts, detailing the platform’s performance in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. “Five years ago we launched @Spotify in Nigeria. Since then, there’s been 1.4 billion hours streamed in 2025 alone and over 25 million playlists created” the post on X stated.
The data shows Asake topping Nigeria’s most streamed artistes, followed by Wizkid, Seyi Vibez, Burna Boy, and Davido, highlighting the continued dominance of Afrobeats in the country. Among songs, Asake’s Remember leads, with Dealer by Ayo Maff & Fireboy DML, Awolowo by Fido, Kese (Dance) by Wizkid, and Lonely At The Top by Asake rounding out the top five.
Nigeria also recorded 25 million user-generated playlists over five years, far surpassing Kenya’s 9.5 million and Ghana’s 3.7 million, underscoring strong listener engagement. The average listener age in Nigeria is 26, matching Kenya, while Ghana’s average is slightly higher at 27.
Beyond Nigeria, Nigerian artistes continue to perform strongly across Africa. In Kenya, Ruger’s Asiwaju, Ayra Starr’s Rush, and Asake & Fireboy DML’s Bandana topped streams, with Asake’s Lonely At The Top ranking fifth. Meanwhile, in Ghana, Black Sherif and Odumodublvck led with Wotowoto Seasoning, followed by Asake’s Lonely At The Top, demonstrating the cross border popularity of Nigerian music.
Spotify’s fifth anniversary insights highlight not only the country’s growing influence on the continent’s music landscape but also Asake’s prominence as a defining figure in Nigeria’s streaming scene.
