President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi are among the 18 presidential candidates listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general election.
The commission also published the final list of candidates for the National Assembly elections, with the document containing the names of presidential candidates and their running mates, alongside their ages, gender and declared educational qualifications.
The list was signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
Tinubu, 74, is listed as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Vice President Kashim Shettima, 59, as his running mate.
Atiku, 79, is listed as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with former Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi, 61, as his running mate.
The list also confirms Peter Obi, 65, as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, 69, as his vice-presidential candidate.
The Obi-Kwankwaso combination is one of the notable features of the final list, bringing together two prominent politicians who have previously sought the presidency on the same ticket.
Other presidential candidates listed by INEC include Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Donald Duke of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
Sowore, 55, is paired with Haruna Garba Magashi, 49, while Duke, 64, has Kabiru Rabiu, 80, as his running mate.
The PDP ticket has Onor, 60, as its presidential candidate and Umaru Babangida, 61, as his running mate, while Adebayo, 54, is listed for the SDP alongside Usman Muhammed Bugaje, 74.
The list further names Yusuf Kabiru of the Allied Peoples Party (APP), 54, with Ofordile Peace Egobia, 47; Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of AA Nigeria, 71, with Shehu Hussaini, 56; and Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the ADP, 44, with Ike Chinazam, 50.
Other candidates are Makinde Oluseyi Abiodun of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), 58, with Musa Lawal Daura, 73; Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party (BP), 52, with Mustapha Usman Turaki, 40; and Moses Olusoji Adebisi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), 35, with Nafisat Usaku Abubakar, 35.
The New Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) fielded Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori, 48, with Chukwuemeka Uchenna Anthony, 48, while the National Rescue Movement (NRM) candidate is Nkem Esther Okereke, 43, with Sulaiman Nasir Muhammed, 35.
The Young Progressive Party (YPP) is represented by Peter Ada Agada, 54, with Patience Ndidi Key, 52, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate is Daniel Nwanyanwu, 66, with Khalid Hassan, 37.
The final list therefore puts the 2027 presidential contest at 18 candidates, with the APC, ADC and NDC tickets featuring three of the most prominent figures in the race — Tinubu, Atiku and Obi.
INEC’s publication also provides the candidates’ declared ages and educational qualifications, although the presentation and level of detail vary considerably between entries.
Tinubu’s qualification, for instance, is recorded simply as “B.Sc,” while several other candidates have multiple qualifications and institutions listed.
