Yemen’s Houthis Deny Drone Attack Claims Near Mecca

Yemen’s Houthis deny allegations of launching a drone near Mecca after the Saudi-led coalition reports intercepting an unmanned aircraft in the region.

Yemen’s Houthi movement has denied launching a drone towards Saudi Arabia after the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aircraft in the Mecca region on Friday.

The coalition blamed the Houthis for the reported drone launch but did not disclose where the aircraft originated or its intended target.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree dismissed the allegation in a statement posted on X, describing it as false. He insisted that the movement had not carried out any military operation against Saudi territory.

Saree further stated that the group’s military operations were directed at Saudi oil facilities and military installations.

The Iran-aligned Houthi movement has previously carried out cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia, targeting military bases, airports and energy infrastructure.

The group has also repeatedly denied accusations of targeting Mecca and Medina, Islam’s two holiest cities, following allegations of drone operations near the religious centres.
