Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what he described as an “unprecedented” level of support to state governments, praising the President for placing governance above politics in his approach to national leadership.
Sani, who said he was speaking on behalf of his fellow governors at the official commissioning of the Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos on Thursday, lauded Tinubu for reforms and policies that have significantly strengthened the fiscal capacity of subnational governments.
Governor Sani said, “What you have done to all of us, as a President, is unprecedented in the political history of Nigeria. When you came in, the first thing you did was creating politics and innovative governance. That has really helped all the sub-nationals in Nigeria.
“All the 36 Governors, Mr. President, are happy with you because you are supporting the sub-nationals. The support you are giving to us today is unprecedented in this country in general.”
Governor Sani emphasised that governors from across party lines—including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party—stand united in their appreciation of President Tinubu’s leadership.
He noted that the economic policies implemented under Tinubu’s administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies and exchange rate reforms, have resulted in increased monthly allocations for states.
“Some of us as Governors will tell you, Mr. President, our allocation has tremendously increased. If not for the removal of fuel subsidy, Kaduna State government would have been stagnant today. So we want to thank you. But most importantly, all the money we are getting as a result of the sub-nationals, we are happy to channel the resources towards infrastructure development, particularly roads, health care, as well as agriculture for some of us in Northern Nigeria. And we want to thank you, Mr. President.”
He also cited major improvements in security, noting that roads once plagued by insecurity, such as the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway, are now safe for travel. “Today, you can leave Kaduna to Birnin Gwari without a single police escort, Mr. President,” he said.
Governor Sani used the opportunity to remind the President of a promise made during the 2022 campaign to reconstruct the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road and urged the Minister of Works to prioritise the project.
