Hollywood actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry says he does not plan to marry, despite maintaining that he believes in love and partnership.

The 57-year-old filmmaker made the remarks during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week while promoting his latest film, Why Did I Get Married Again?, which premiered on Netflix on September 9.

Perry, who has never been married, said his decision is influenced by what he described as a “divorce pandemic,” particularly among people he knows who have experienced financial difficulties following divorce.

“I’m never marrying. and it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.

He clarified that his position does not stem from an absence of love, but from concerns about protecting what he has built, including the financial and legal consequences that can accompany the end of a marriage.

The filmmaker also said his priorities have changed as he gets older, with greater emphasis now placed on spending time with his 11-year-old son, Aman.

“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” he said.

Perry shares Aman with his former partner, Gelila Bekele, whom he dated from 2009 to 2020.

As part of the changes he is planning, Perry has announced that he intends to relocate to Puerto Rico with his son at the start of 2027 and reduce his involvement in the demands of Hollywood.

The actor is currently promoting Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third instalment of the franchise that has explored relationships, infidelity and divorce since its launch in 2007.

Although Perry has ruled out marriage for himself, his comments indicate that he still values love and companionship, but does not currently see a legal marriage as part of his future.
