Tyla Claims Second Grammy As Push 2 Start Wins Best African Music Performance

Tyla claims second Grammy as Push 2 Start wins Best African Music Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards.

South African superstar Tyla delivered another career-defining moment as she won Best African Music Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, earning her second Grammy trophy.

The 24-year-old singer, affectionately known as South Africa’s golden girl, took to the stage just days after her birthday to accept the award for her hit single “Push 2 Start.” The win cements her growing global influence and places her firmly at the forefront of contemporary African music.

With this victory, Tyla becomes the first artist to win the Best African Music Performance category twice since its introduction in 2024. This year’s category featured some of the continent’s biggest names, including Burna Boy (“Love”), Davido featuring Omah Lay (“With You”), Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid (“Gimme Dat”), and Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo alongside Mehran Matin (“Hope & Love”).

Released on October 11, 2024, “Push 2 Start” serves as the lead single for “TYLA +,” the deluxe edition of Tyla’s self-titled debut album. Produced by Sammy Soso, Ari PenSmith, and Mocha, the track showcases Tyla’s signature Popianosounda smooth fusion of Amapiano, pop, and R&B.

The song’s rise began with a viral teaser at the 2024 MTV VMAs, followed by a visually striking music video directed by Aerin Moreno, released in November 2024. Its strong performance on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart and the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart throughout late 2024 and 2025 set the stage for its Grammy triumph.Hide trimmed content
