Two Brothers Killed In Akure Truck Crash Near VIO Office

Two brothers died in Akure after a tipper truck hit motorcycles and cars near a VIO office during inspection checks.

Two brothers have died after a tipper truck hit motorcycles and vehicles in Akure, Ondo State. The crash happened near the Vehicle Inspection Office and led to tension in the area.

The accident took place along Pa Reuben Fasoranti Road, in front of the VIO office. Officials were carrying out routine checks when the truck lost control and struck vehicles caught in traffic.

Eyewitnesses said the victims were on a motorcycle when the truck rammed into them after hitting other vehicles on the road. The riders died at the scene.

A commercial driver said he escaped the crash by running to safety. He said the truck moved through stationary vehicles and caused panic.

He said, “I parked by the roadside. People started shouting. The truck was hitting vehicles. I had to run.”

Residents blamed the traffic build-up around the VIO office for exposing road users to danger. Some youths gathered and expressed anger at the scene.

Police officers from the Ijapo Division arrived and restored order. They also stopped attempts to attack the VIO office.

The police said the truck was not registered. They added that a car and a motorcycle were involved in the crash.

Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said the motorcycle rider and passenger were taken to hospital where they were confirmed dead. He said the vehicles have been moved for investigation.
