Trump Expresses Urgency To Meet Putin To End War In Ukraine

President Trump has expressed his desire to meet with Putin to negotiate an end to the Ukraine war

Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday his desire to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the nearly three-year-long war in Ukraine.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos via video link, Trump emphasised the devastating human toll of the conflict and his commitment to securing peace.

“I really would like to be able to meet with President Putin soon to get that war ended,” Trump, who returned to the White House on Monday, told the World Economic Forum in Davos by video link.

“And that’s not from the standpoint of economy or anything else. It’s from the standpoint of millions of lives are being wasted … It’s a carnage. And we really have to stop that war.”
During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly vowed to broker a deal between Ukraine and Russia, promising that the conflict would be resolved on his first day in office, if not earlier. However, his advisers have since acknowledged that achieving peace will likely take several months of negotiation.

Trump hinted that US-led efforts to secure a peace settlement were underway but refrained from providing specific details.

The war in Ukraine, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions, remains a significant global issue. Trump’s remarks reflect his administration’s intention to prioritise diplomatic efforts to address the crisis.

With his re-election victory on Nov. 5 reinforcing his leadership, Trump’s proposed meeting with Putin could mark a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to end the conflict and restore stability in the region.
