President Donald Trump has criticised the US Supreme Court, including justices he appointed, after the court blocked the US Postal Service from implementing a rule affecting mail-in ballots ahead of the November midterm elections.
Trump expressed his frustration in a social media post on Tuesday, accusing the court of yielding to pressure from the political left and making decisions he said were harmful to the United States.
He argued that recent Supreme Court decisions had weakened the country, claiming they had set the United States back by at least a century.
Trump also criticised the justices he nominated, saying they had failed to meet the expectations he had when appointing them to the bench.
The court’s decision comes as election officials and political leaders continue to debate rules governing mail-in voting ahead of the midterm elections.
Mail-in ballots have remained a contentious issue in US electoral politics, with Trump repeatedly questioning election procedures while supporters of the voting method argue that it helps eligible voters participate in elections.
