Tinubu Congratulates Modi On 25 Years Of Leadership In India

President Tinubu congratulates Narendra Modi on 25 years in government, highlighting Nigeria-India ties and shared Global South commitments.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 25th anniversary of his assumption of office as Head of Government and Chief Minister of Gujarat.

In a message issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Tinubu, on behalf of the Nigerian government and people, described the milestone as “truly historic” and extended warm and fraternal congratulations to Modi.

The President noted that Modi first assumed office in 2001 as Head of Government and Chief Minister of Gujarat and, after more than 12 years serving the people of the state, became Prime Minister of India in 2014.

Tinubu described 25 years of unbroken leadership as a rare achievement in any democracy and a testament to the enduring confidence the Indian people have placed in Modi.

He commended Modi’s leadership in infrastructure, digital public goods, financial inclusion and innovation, saying it had lifted millions and inspired nations across the Global South.

The President also highlighted the strategic partnership between Nigeria and India, recalling Modi’s State Visit to Abuja in November 2024, when Nigeria honoured him with the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

According to Tinubu, the visit gave fresh impetus to cooperation between both countries in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, health, education and technology.

Tinubu said Nigeria and India, as fellow democracies and leading voices of the Global South, shared a commitment to a fairer, more inclusive and more representative international order. He expressed confidence that the bonds of friendship between both peoples would continue to grow stronger and wished Modi good health, continued strength and success in the service of the people of India.
