Tiger Woods Arrested After Florida Crash As Sheriff Cites Signs Of Impairment

Golfer Tiger Woods arrested after Florida crash, faces DUI-related misdemeanour charges following roadside tests and refusal of urine test.

Golf icon Tiger Woods has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a car crash in Florida, authorities confirmed.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods showed “signs of impairment” following a two-vehicle collision on Friday afternoon near his home on Jupiter Island.

Sheriff John M. Budensiek said officers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and observed the golfer’s condition before conducting roadside tests.

Authorities said Woods attempted to overtake a pressure-cleaner truck on a two-lane road but clipped the back of its trailer while trying to avoid a collision. His Land Rover then rolled onto its driver’s side. Woods was able to crawl out of the passenger side of the vehicle.

No injuries were reported for Woods or the other driver involved.

A breathalyser test administered at the scene returned negative, but Woods refused to submit to a urine test. He was subsequently arrested and taken to jail, where he is required to remain for at least eight hours.

He has been charged with driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Both offences are classified as misdemeanours.

The incident marks the latest in a series of driving-related episodes involving Woods, including a serious 2021 crash in Los Angeles that left him with multiple leg and ankle injuries. He was also arrested in 2017 on a DUI charge after being found asleep behind the wheel, later pleading guilty to reckless driving.

The 50-year-old, a 15-time major champion with 82 PGA Tour wins — tied with Sam Snead — has been working his way back from multiple injuries, including a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2025 and recent back surgery.

Woods has not competed regularly since the The Open Championship in 2024 and has yet to confirm whether he will feature at the Masters in April.

Off the course, he remains influential within the sport, serving as chairman of the PGA Tour’s Future Competition Committee and weighing a decision on whether to captain the US Ryder Cup team in 2027.
