A tragic helicopter crash in Sri Lanka has claimed the lives of six military personnel, according to an Air Force official on Friday.
The Bell 212 helicopter went down in the Maduru Oya reservoir in central Sri Lanka while carrying 12 members of the armed forces. The aircraft was on assignment for a grappling exercise tied to a military passing-out parade.
“Four special forces personnel and two Air Force gunmen died of their injuries,” confirmed Air Force spokesman Group Captain Eranda Geeganage.
The cause of the crash has not yet been disclosed, with the Air Force declining to provide further details as investigations continue.
