Nigerian Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has proposed that the Nigerian government should offer amnesty to criminal herdsmen engaged in banditry and kidnapping.

According to Gumi, the banditry perpetrated by herdsmen in the northern part of the country is a result of neglect by the Nigerian state.

Gumi was on Wednesday a guest on ARISE NEWS’ Morning Show.

The bandits have been responsible for crimes including murder, rape and the kidnapping of schoolchildren across different parts of the country’s northern region.

Gumi who is widely accused of sympathising with terrorists, called for amnesty for the herdsmen who he says are ready to give up their arms if their demands are met.
