Saudi Arabia, US Announce 24-Hour Sudan Ceasefire

The mediators announced that the ceasefire will start by 6:00am on Saturday.

Meditators, Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, have announced that the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to a 24-hour ceasefire, which will start on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry tweeted that the ceasefire is set to begin at 6:00am, local time. The tweet said, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America announce that representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to a 24-hour countrywide ceasefire beginning on June 10 at 6:00 a.m. Khartoum time.”

A document shared along with the tweet read, “The facilitators share the frustration of the Sudanese people about the uneven implementation of previous ceasefires. The facilitators proposed this latest initiative in an effort to break the cycle of violence.

“If observed, the 24-hour ceasefire will provide an important opportunity to deliver humanitarian assistance and for the parties to undertake confidence-building measures which could permit resumption of the Jeddah talks. Should the parties failed to observe the 24-hour ceasefire, facilitators will be compelled to consider adjourning the Jeddah talks.”
