Rubio Weighs Exit From Trump Administration After Republican Midterm Election Losses

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio considers leaving the Trump administration following Republican midterm losses, although the State Department denies resignation discussions.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is considering leaving the Trump administration following Republican losses in this week’s midterm elections, Bloomberg has reported.

According to people familiar with the matter, Rubio and his advisers are weighing his options for the future, although no decision has been made about whether he will resign from his positions as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser.

The sources, who requested anonymity because they were discussing internal deliberations, said there was no timetable for a possible departure.

Bloomberg also reported that Rubio had spoken with officials at the White House about stepping down, but some officials had asked him to remain in the administration.

However, the State Department has dismissed the report, describing it as false.

“This is complete and total fake news based on the word of anonymous sources, befitting a tabloid,” said Dylan Johnson, Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs.

“The secretary has not discussed leaving his role and he will continue to proudly serve in President Trump’s administration long after this fake news is revealed as yet another baseless hoax.”

Rubio currently serves as the United States’ top diplomat and National Security Adviser under President Donald Trump.

Despite the reported discussions about his future, neither Rubio nor the White House has announced any decision regarding his positions.
