Nigerian singer and songwriter Yedika has been selected as the latest Nigerian artist for Apple Music’s Up Next programme, a global initiative that spotlights emerging musicians and supports their development.
The announcement recognises the rising artist, whose single “Believe” has attracted more than five million streams across digital streaming platforms, while his debut EP, Motion, has recorded over seven million streams.
Born in Kano and raised in Lagos, Yedika draws on his multicultural background to create music that blends Afrobeats with Afro-fusion. He began releasing music this year and has since built an audience through songs including “Believe”, “Compare”, “Celebe” and “Pepeneda”.
Reacting to his selection, Yedika said the recognition was unexpected, given how recently he began releasing music.
“I only started putting out music this year, and the love and support from my fans has been unreal. I’m seeing my music everywhere, so to be chosen by a global brand like Apple Music for Up Next Nigeria is a dream come true,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to listeners who supported his music before the recognition, adding that he plans to release more music and reach bigger milestones in the coming year.
Signed to Horme Music, Yedika’s debut EP, Motion, marks another stage in his developing career. The project has also secured placements on four Apple Music editorial playlists.
As part of the programme, his music will feature on Apple Music’s Up Next playlist, which brings together emerging artists selected by the platform’s global editorial team across different genres.
Previous Nigerian artists featured in the programme include Rema and Tems, alongside international acts such as Billie Eilish, Khalid, Daniel Caesar and Megan Thee Stallion.
