Rivers Assembly Withdraws Appeals Against Governor Fubara, Deputy

Lawmakers withdraw appeal suits against Governor Fubara and his deputy following presidential intervention and fresh constitutional undertakings.

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn appeal suits filed against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over alleged misappropriation and misconduct.

The decision was contained in a resolution signed on Thursday by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Dr. Enemi George.

George said the resolution followed agreements reached at a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on February 8, 2026.

According to him, the governor and his deputy had agreed to desist from actions that infringe on the Constitution and laws of Rivers State and to take immediate steps to remedy any previous breaches.

“This resolution followed agreements reached at the meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, 8th February, 2026 and the filing of Notice of Discontinuance of suits OYHC/7/CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026 by the Governor and Deputy Governor on Tuesday, 17th of February, 2026,” George said.

He further disclosed that as a demonstration of good faith and respect for the President, the lawmakers on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, withdrew two matters at the Court of Appeal, specifically Appeal No. CA/PH/3/2026 and Appeal No. CA/PH/32/2026.

“As agreed among other things, the Governor and Deputy Governor have pledged to desist from infringing on the Constitution and laws of Rivers State moving forward and would both take immediate steps to remedy all previous infringements,” he stated.

George expressed hope that the governor and his deputy would not renege on their commitments, adding that adherence to the agreement would strengthen the rule of law and promote progress in the state.

He recalled that during plenary on Thursday, the House also resolved to halt impeachment proceedings earlier initiated against the governor and his deputy.

The lawmaker thanked the people of Rivers State for their support and prayers for the 10th Assembly and the state, while also appreciating President Tinubu for what he described as his leadership and fatherly role in resolving the dispute.
