Rising Death Toll And Displacement In Tanzania Floods Spark Urgent Concern

The death toll in Tanzania has doubled in recent weeks due the floods, killing 155 individuals.

Heavy rainfall in Tanzania has led to severe flooding, claiming the lives of 155 individuals and impacting over 200,000 others, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa announced on Thursday.

The death toll has doubled in recent weeks due to intensified rainfall, particularly in coastal areas and the capital, Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa attributed the worsening situation to the El Niño climate pattern, exacerbating the ongoing rainy season and causing extensive damage to infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and railways.

Flooded schools have been forced to close, and emergency services are conducting rescue operations for those stranded by the floodwaters.

Majaliwa advised residents in low-lying areas to relocate to higher ground for safety and urged district officials to ensure that aid reaches those most in need. Over 51,000 households have been affected by the torrential rains, highlighting the urgent need for assistance and support.
