Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died at the age of 27.
Santa Monica police said Monday that they were investigating the death as a suspected overdose.
Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records show Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility on Sunday. His exact cause of death has not been determined, and police said there was no indication of foul play.
Allie Jenkins, a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber said that the family was asking for privacy. “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
Gerber followed his mother and younger sister, Kaia Gerber, into modelling. He made his catwalk debut for Italian fashion label Moschino at 16.
He later modelled for brands including Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta.
His father, Rande Gerber, is a businessman who co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand with actor George Clooney.
Gerber had spoken publicly in recent years about his struggles with mental health and drug use.
In 2023, he told the Studio 22 podcast that he hoped his experience could help others dealing with similar challenges. “Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do.”
Kaia Gerber also spoke about her brother’s addiction struggles in an interview published by American Vogue this month. “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone.”
Kaia said her family had traditionally kept private matters away from the public but that her brother’s openness had changed how they approached his struggles. “There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”
Gerber was close to his family and appeared alongside Kaia in a Calvin Klein campaign in 2018. He also had her name tattooed on his arm.
That year, he told People that he and his sister were particularly close. “We’re a close family, especially me and my sister, so it’s definitely cool.”
Gerber also appeared with his mother in a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial in 2018, 26 years after Crawford starred in the brand’s famous 1992 advertisement. lWe’re a really tight family, so it was just like going to work with one of your friends. It was so fun, and easy,” he told People at the time.
In July, Crawford marked her son’s 27th birthday by sharing two childhood photographs of him on Instagram. “I’m so proud of the man you’ve become, but I’ll always see you as my little boy! Love you,” she wrote.
