A Police officer’s video has sparked reactions online as the community of Owa Onire in Kwara State reels under the worsening insecurity in the area. This comes as persistent kidnapping threats have forced many residents to abandon the town.
In a video circulating online, a Police officer lamented that the once-populated community has become deserted as fear of abduction continues to drive people away from their homes.
“The people of this town, all of them have gone away. Kidnapper don pursue them from this village,” he said.
The officer, who identified the location as Awaniri in Kwara State, repeatedly pointed to the apparent absence of people in the community, saying many residents had fled in search of safety.
“Nobody dey the town again.”
While moving around the community and recording landmarks, he claimed that the impact of insecurity could be seen in the unusually quiet surroundings.
“This is Owa Onire, Kwara State. Nobody there in the town again.”
The officer also showed what he identified as the Owa Onire Palace, using it as a reference point while stressing that the community had been severely affected by the activities of kidnappers.
“This is Owa Onire Palace. This is Owa Onire.”
He further expressed concern about the state of the community, saying the situation was unlike anything he had previously witnessed.
“Ah, this is my first time.”
The claims come amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State and other areas of the North Central region, where incidents of kidnapping and banditry have continued to threaten rural communities and force residents to relocate.
Authorities have yet to comment on the specific claims made in the video. However, security challenges, particularly kidnappings for ransom, have remained a major concern in several communities across the country, prompting repeated calls for stronger security measures to protect residents and restore confidence in affected areas.
