Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Murder Of Wife In Nasarawa

Police arrested a Nasarawa father of two after he allegedly beat his 20-year-old wife to death following a domestic dispute.

The Nigerian Police Force, Nasarawa State Command, has arrested a father of two identified as Musbawu Amodu for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death over ‘failure to prepare food’ in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement signed on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed. The statement, obtained by our correspondent in Lafia, said the suspect left behind two children, a son and a daughter, from their six-year marriage.

The command noted that the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m., and a report was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division alleging that the suspect had assaulted his wife, leading to her death.

The statement explained that the suspect was promptly arrested and, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to the act, claiming he acted out of anger after the deceased refused to prepare food.

Further, the statement added, “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilized patrol personnel to the scene, where the victim was taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for medical examination and treatment.”

It also noted that an argument escalated into a physical fight, which ultimately resulted in her death.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a thorough, discreet, and swift investigation.

He assured the public that justice will be served and that the suspect will face charges in court once the investigation concludes.

CP Jauro-Mohammed strongly condemned all forms of domestic violence, calling the incident tragic and preventable. He warned couples and families to embrace dialogue, patience, and lawful means of resolving disputes, emphasizing that no disagreement is worth the loss of a human life.

The police chief also mentioned that the situation in Agyaragu and surrounding areas remains calm and under control, with ongoing monitoring.
