Peter Okoye Announces New Birthday Date, Addresses Critics

Peter Okoye shifts birthday celebration to November 30 and responds to critics, describing the decision as personal and not controversial.

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has announced that he will now celebrate his birthday on November 30, discontinuing the long observed date of November 18.

The 44 year old artiste made the announcement on Monday via his X account, informing fans, friends, and associates of the change and how it will take effect. He noted that he would no longer acknowledge messages or gifts sent on the former date, describing the decision as personal.

In the post, he wrote: “Dear Family, Friends, and Fans,

I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day.

My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding.

Thank you all.🙅🏽‍♂️👍🏾😉”

He had earlier hinted at the decision in a separate post, stating: “I am officially changing my birthday date.”

Responding to reactions that followed his announcement, Okoye addressed critics in a follow up post on Tuesday, suggesting that the change was a personal decision that should not attract controversy. He wrote: “Una dey vex like say I cancel Christmas? 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Na my birthday date I move… no be your own, why e dey pain you?

Even Jesus Christ December 25th date sef, people still dey debate am 🤷🏾‍♂️

Why cry more than the bereaved? Only in Nigeria 🤦🏽‍♂️ Funny how my birthday date shift is causing more pain than Nigeria’s real problems 😂 😂

Just for the record: Insult no dey reduce success.
Who don make am, don make am! Know that and know peace✌🏾

OGForever🙅🏽‍♂️🔥”

Born on November 18, 1981, Okoye rose to prominence as part of the music duo P-Square, alongside his twin brother Paul Okoye, with whom he shares the same birth date. The pair built a successful career spanning over a decade, releasing multiple albums and gaining international recognition for their music and performances.

Their journey as a group saw periods of separation and reunion, with differences at various times linked to creative direction, management structure, and personal dynamics within the family, including the role of their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who managed the group. Both artistes have also made allegations at different points regarding professional disagreements and internal issues.

Despite these developments, both brothers have sustained individual careers. While Paul performs as Rudeboy with successful releases, Peter, under the name Mr P, has continued to produce music and explore other areas of entertainment, maintaining a visible presence in the industry.

The development has continued to generate reactions on social media, with fans and observers sharing mixed views, while the singer maintains that the decision remains a personal one.
