National Coordinator of Youths on Ground (YOG), Dr Obioma Nwuba, says the organisation will mobilise 10 million youths for the 2027 general elections by directly empowering 600,000 young Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, Nwuba said the organisation had designed a framework to empower 600,000 youths directly and was preparing to deploy it.

“We have planned to empower 600,000 youths between now and the end of the year. We have designed a framework for that and we are about to deploy.”

He said the direct beneficiaries would influence more people through their families and communities.

“What we believe is that once we have successfully done that, there will be those that are directly impacted by our capacity-building. Then there are those that will be indirectly impacted by capacity-building, which will be much more than those that have been directly impacted.”

Nwuba said the organisation expects the programme to help it reach its 10 million target.

“And we believe that if we are able to execute and get to our target of empowering 600,000 directly, indirectly, we are going to have that influence upon 10 million people.”

He said the organisation’s programmes focus on capacity building at the grassroots.

“Our programmes are not purely politically based. Our programmes are capacity-building programmes.”

Nwuba said one of the programmes used to achieve this is the Alutech Training, Mentorship and Empowerment Programme.

“We have a particular programme we call our Alutech Training, Mentorship and Empowerment Programme. So what we actually do is we go down to the grassroots and train them on smart farming, things that they can do in their hood, not something that they need large expanse land for.”

He said beneficiaries would also receive materials to begin cultivation and join a mentorship programme.

“And after we’ve trained them on that, we empower them with quality seedlings, we empower them with manure, and we empower them with nursery trays, which they use to start the cultivation of the seedlings. And then we now enrol them in our mentorship programme.”
