A Nigerian Industrial Court has ordered resident doctors in the country to suspend its industrial action with immediate effect.

The National Industrial Court gave the order on Friday to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) after doctors had commenced the strike on August 1.

The doctors are demanding a regular payment of their wages, better working conditions and other issues.

Since they embarked on the strike, efforts by several groups to mediate between the federal government and the doctors were deadlocked.

Tochukwu Maduka, counsel to the federal government at the hearing urged the court to order the defendant to suspend the strike pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
