NFF President Gusau Denies Any Altercation With CAF Vice President Fouzi Lekjaa

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau dismisses reports alleging a confrontation with CAF Vice President Fouzi Lekjaa as false and misleading.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has dismissed as “total falsehood” reports alleging he engaged in a public altercation with Fouzi Lekjaa during a CAF Executive Committee meeting in Morocco.

The unverified report claimed that Gusau, who is also President of WAFU B, had a heated argument with Lekjaa, President of the Federation Royale Marocaine de Football and First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football, during the 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Reacting, Gusau said the allegation was completely unfounded, stressing that Nigeria and Morocco maintain cordial football and diplomatic relations.

“I really don’t know where the report is coming from. Nigeria and Morocco enjoy very cordial relationships in football and at government level. Personally, I have always had a good relationship with Mr. Lekjaa,” he said.

“There was no shouting match, no argument, and no insults. Whoever originated the report was peddling outright falsehood.”

Gusau also denied making comments regarding officiating during the AFCON semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on January 14.

“Before the match, I stated publicly that we had no concerns about officiating. After the match, I made no comments whatsoever,” he added.

He further commended the Morocco Football Federation, the Local Organising Committee, the Moroccan government and CAF for hosting what he described as a highly successful Africa Cup of Nations.
