Kwara state police commissioner, Mr. Adekimi Ojo yesterday confirmed the abduction of a newly wed couple along Kwara- Kogi states boundary community by the people suspected to be bandits.
Ojo however said that, soldiers and other security agencies have been deployed to Eruku town in Ekiti local government area of the state where the incident happened so as to ensure the rescue of the victims
The affected couple identified as Funmilayo Bamidele and her husband, Reverend Abiodun David,
according to THISDAY investigations were reportedly returning from their traditional engagement ceremony in Eruku in Ekiti local government area of the state when the incident occurred on Saturday along the Eruku-Iyemero Road.
Sources told our correspondent in Ilorin on Sunday that, the victims were said to be travelling alongside four other passengers when their vehicle was intercepted by gunmen along the-Eruku- Iyemero road axis.
Sources said that, the ugly development has caused tension in Eruku town as security agencies have been deployed to the town so as to rescue the victims.
It was further learnt that the vehicle was initially expected to ply the Isanlu Road, but the driver opted for a back route through Iyamoye in Kogi State to drop off the Best Man and other members of the entourage.
A photograph of the abducted couple has since emerged on social media following the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, details regarding the whereabouts of the other passengers and efforts to secure their release remain sketchy.
Confirming the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday , the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said that security operatives have launched a joint rescue operation.
According to him, the soldiers are already combing the bush to apprehend the perpetrators and rescue the victims unhurt.
He disclosed that the vehicle conveying the victims was found parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.
He added that police operatives from the three affected states; Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti are jointly carrying out the rescue operation since the crime occurred along border communities of the three states.
