Morocco have climbed to seventh in the latest FIFA World Rankings, reinforcing their status among world football’s elite ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions moved up one place after a series of positive results in their final preparations for the tournament, accumulating 1,756.94 ranking points to remain the highest-ranked team in Africa and the Arab world.
Morocco overtook the Netherlands in the standings after the Dutch slipped following a 1-0 defeat to Algeria.
The rise comes on the back of strong recent performances, including a commanding 4-0 victory over Madagascar on Tuesday, further boosting confidence within the squad ahead of the World Cup.
Walid Regragui’s side will face Norway in their final friendly match on Sunday, six days before opening their World Cup campaign against Brazil.
Morocco have been drawn in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti. While the Atlas Lions are widely expected to challenge for a place in the knockout stages, their meeting with five-time world champions Brazil is likely to be their toughest test of the group phase.
As Morocco continue to establish themselves among the game’s leading nations, they remain focused on closing the gap on the world’s top-ranked teams, with France, Spain and Argentina currently occupying the top three places in the FIFA rankings.
