Modele Sarafa-Yusuf: I’m Better Prepared And More Confident Ahead Of Ogun APC Governorship Primaries

Modele Sarafa-Yusuf says she is more confident and better prepared ahead of the Ogun APC governorship primaries.

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has expressed renewed confidence in her chances ahead of the party’s 2027 primaries, despite competition from strong contenders.

Speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Sarafa-Yusuf said her optimism is rooted in experience, broader consultations, and a more favourable political environment compared to the last election cycle.

“I’m really confident about my chances this time around. I was the last time, but now even more so,” she said.

Her remarks come amid concerns about the influence of money in the race, particularly with heavyweight aspirants believed to have significant financial backing. However, Sarafa-Yusuf downplayed the role of financial strength, urging observers to look beyond what she described as “noise”.

“The race does not always go to the swiftest,” she said. “In life and in politics, anything can happen.”

Reflecting on her previous attempt in 2022, where she did not secure the party’s ticket, the aspirant said she “accepted the result with dignity, maintained relationships, stayed connected with the party, and continued to learn at the feet of people who know how politics works in Ogun State.”

She also explained that unlike the previous election cycle, when an incumbent governor was seeking re-election, the upcoming contest presents a more level playing field for aspirants.

Sarafa-Yusuf also highlighted the importance of grassroots engagement, noting that her decision to run again followed extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and members across the state.

“I didn’t just wake up and say, I’m going to do this,” she said. I consulted with a wide range of people, the leaders, the stakeholders, the party people at the grassroots.”

She further described the growing number of aspirants as a positive reflection of the state’s political strength.

“As an Ogun State indigene, aren’t you proud that your state can produce this many brilliant people who want to serve? I am,” she said.
