Retired police officers staged a protest in Abuja on Monday, demanding their exemption from the contributory pension scheme (CPS).

The officers, gathered at the National Assembly, argued that their current monthly pensions are insufficient for basic needs and that the Nigeria Police Force should be fully removed from the CPS, a scheme where both employees and employers contribute to pensions.

Meanwhile, Activist and 2023 AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, participated in a protest by retired police officers concerning their poor welfare.

Sowore emphasized that Nigeria’s safety is compromised without a motivated police force, highlighting the neglect that has rendered the police ineffective despite their crucial role in internal security and larger personnel count than the army.

Reports circulated on Monday, July 21st, claiming that Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, had rejected his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

However, these claims were refuted by Dada Olusegun, special assistant to the president on social media.

According to a press release from Babangida himself on Monday, he accepted the appointment, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him by President Tinubu.

He dismissed the reports of his rejection as false and malicious attempts to mislead the public and harm the Tinubu administration’s image.

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, met with national chairman Julius Abure on Monday to address party unity.

Baba-Ahmed affirmed his dedication to keeping the Labour Party focused on its objectives and effectively representing its members. He also confirmed that Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party and has not joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Kemi Badenoch’s interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, where she claimed she couldn’t pass her Nigerian citizenship to her children because she is a woman has been widely debunked as fallacious.

According to Section 25(1)(c) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, a person born outside Nigeria is a Nigerian citizen if either of their parents is a Nigerian citizen, regardless of gender.
