Katsina Disburses N328m Scholarship Support For 650 Medical Students

Katsina State says the scholarship scheme is aimed at strengthening healthcare workforce development and supporting medical students financially.

The Katsina State Government has disbursed over N328 million under Phase I of its 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme for 650 medical students studying in accredited universities within and outside Nigeria.

The General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (KTHSMB), Dr Muhammad Nazir Shehu, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Board Secretary, Abu Usman.

According to the statement, the sum of N328,123,392.35 was approved by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda as part of efforts to strengthen human capital development in the state’s health sector.
Shehu explained that the allowance scheme covers medical students studying across 33 accredited universities and is intended to ease the financial burden faced by beneficiaries during their academic and professional training.

“This is a strategic investment by the Katsina State Government to build a competent, resilient, and service-oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” he said.

He added that the state government remains committed to ensuring proper management and transparent distribution of the scholarship funds.

According to him, the initiative represents a deliberate investment by the Radda administration in the development of a skilled healthcare workforce capable of addressing the state’s growing medical and health challenges.

Shehu urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support and remain focused on academic excellence throughout their studies.
He also disclosed that additional phases of the medical students’ allowance scheme would be introduced to further support students and cushion the financial difficulties associated with medical education.

“Students are expected to maintain professionalism and ethical conduct in line with the expectations and vision of the Katsina State Government,” he stated.

The Katsina State Government said the scholarship initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery through sustained investment in education and manpower development.
