Katsina Customs To Apprehend Those Behind Lynching of Officer

Katsina Customs Area Command said it will fish out those involved in the lynching of its officer while on duty.

The Katsina Customs Area Command said it would not stop at anything to fish out those involved in the lynching of its Officer while on duty along the Katsina – Kaita Road that leads to Dankama a border community. 

The Area Controller of Customs, Comptroller Muhammed Umar stated this in Kayawa community of Dutsi Local council area of Katsina State when he paid condolences to the family of late Customs Assistant II Awwa Haruna who was allegedly harassed and chased to a private resident and then got lynched by a group of suspected traders on their way to the Dankama weekly Market in Kaita local council area in Katsina State. 

A Press statement by the Spokesman of the Katsina Area Command a Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe indicated that the state Controller also conveyed the condolences of the Comptroller General of Customs Bishir Adewale Adeniyi to the family of the deceased Customs officer. 

The statement added “the Area Controller assured the family of the deceased that the Service has initiated a thorough investigation to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act and would ensure justice is served”.

On his part, the Chairman of Dutsi Local Government Area, Hon. Abdulrazzak Adamu, expressed gratitude on behalf of the deceased family members for the Service support during this challenging time and urged the Nigeria Customs Service to bring the culprits to book and ensure that justice is served.

In a related development, a Member of the Katsina State House Assembly representing Kaita local council area Hon. Sarajo Abdullahi Kwaskwaro has expressed displeasure over the misconduct of the Traders as according to him steps have been taken for having a smooth passage of goods from Katsina Metropolis to the Border communities within Kaita local council area.

In an interview with Arise News Television, the law maker highlighted that  ” I have already made an arrangement with the customs on how they will be allowing a free and legitimate entry of goods into Kaita and Dankama without obstructing the duty of the security operatives along our major road. 

But unfortunately some bad elements of the society went and took the law into their hands. I the culprits would be fishout and be punished accordingly”.
