Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu said at an APC South-East women’s rally at Okpara Square in Enugu on Saturday that the region will not accept a four-year presidency when power shifts. He said the Igbo cannot wait sixty years only to produce a president for four, and urged the region to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. His remarks were widely seen as a response to NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who has pledged to serve a single term.
Concurrently, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji described anyone opposed to Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 as an enemy of Nigeria. He made the remark on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti at a mega rally organised by the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, where over twenty new campaign vehicles were presented.
Also in Ekiti State, AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has released a video showing the faces of individuals suspected of attacking him with machetes at a restaurant last week. He says police arrested eleven suspects and recovered thirteen mobile phones, eight international passports, walkie-talkies and suspected Indian hemp. He also alleged that the restaurant’s CCTV recordings were wiped after being taken by police officers, and has called for an independent investigation.
In Delta State, members of the public are urging Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to caution the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, after a video on Facebook showed him telling a crowd not to come out on election day if they do not intend to vote for the APC.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu said he feels “fulfilled” after praying inside the Kaaba in Mecca, a rare honour granted by the Saudi Royal Court. He said he made the same pilgrimage before the 2023 election, described his presidency as “a favour from God Almighty,” and thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their hospitality. The footage comes days after former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar demanded date-stamped photos and videos of the visit.
A video of the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu has also sparked mixed reactions. Posted by the City Boy Movement on Thursday, it shows him asking a new AI tool, “AskCityBoy,” to list his father’s achievements while demonstrating it to former Finance Minister, Wale Edun at the movement’s national headquarters in Abuja.
In Bayelsa State, NDC national leader and former Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson said at his homecoming reception in Toru-Orua on Friday that the APC has done nothing for the state and that the current ministers are “half ministers.” He accused Governor Douye Diri of betraying trust by joining the APC, but urged supporters to remain peaceful. Peter Obi joined Dickson in a traditional Ijaw war boat regatta as part of the celebration.
Today, ARISE News provides further clarity on our earlier report about Borno woman, Lami Samuel Dawa, who was jailed for 14 years on May 5th by Justice A. B. Kumalia of the Borno State High Court. The judgment shows the girl at the centre of the case was 16, and the court found that Dawa, a neighbour, gave her a phone and SIM card and sent her to a Bible school in Jos while her family searched for her. She was convicted of enticing a child away from her parents, removing her from their custody and depriving her of schooling. Four co-defendants were discharged, and an appeal has been filed.
