The Jigawa State Government has deployed anti-corruption agencies and security operatives to monitor the distribution of Federal Government flood relief materials to 700 households, as the state strengthens accountability and transparency in recovery efforts following the 2025 flood disaster.
The State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, disclosed this on Monday during the flag-off of the distribution exercise at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) warehouse in Warwade, Dutse.
The monitoring team includes the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Sankara said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved additional relief materials through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to support flood victims, restore livelihoods and cushion the impact of the disaster on vulnerable households.
He explained that the intervention comprises essential food items, household necessities and empowerment equipment aimed at improving the welfare and economic recovery of affected residents.
The relief package includes 500 bags of 25kg rice, 250 cartons of spaghetti, 250 cartons of vegetable oil, 500 foam mattresses, 250 nylon mats and 250 blankets.
Other items earmarked for distribution are 54 water-pumping machines, 48 grinding machines, 40 sewing machines and 10 cargo tricycles to empower beneficiaries and strengthen their economic activities.
According to the commissioner, NEMA and Jigawa SEMA are coordinating the exercise alongside the Nigerian Red Cross Society and relevant anti-corruption and security agencies to ensure that the relief materials reach the intended beneficiaries.
He said the involvement of the agencies was aimed at preventing manipulation, abuse and diversion of the materials, while ensuring fairness and accountability throughout the distribution process.
Sankara commended President Tinubu for approving the additional intervention, describing it as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting disaster victims and rebuilding affected communities.
He recalled that following the 2025 flooding, the Jigawa State Government, through SEMA, swiftly mobilised resources and distributed relief materials to affected communities within days of the disaster.
The state government, he said, distributed more than 11,000 bags of rice, beans and maize in 10kg and 25kg sizes, alongside cash assistance and other food items to hundreds of affected households.
He added that agricultural inputs, including improved seeds, were also provided to affected farmers to enable them to resume farming, recover lost production and strengthen food security.
The commissioner said the latest Federal Government intervention would further complement the state’s recovery efforts, support vulnerable households and strengthen resilience against future disasters.
