At least five people, including students, were wounded when an attacker opened fire in front of a high school in the western Turkish province of Manisa on Tuesday, broadcaster NTV and the local governor’s office reported.
One of the wounded was in critical condition, while the assailant fled the scene, NTV reported. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
The shooting took place at around 8:00am local time, according to the broadcaster.
The Manisa governor’s office said it had received a report of gunfire near the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district.
The shooting comes after two deadly school shootings in Turkey in April that sparked public outrage and prompted officials to introduce new security measures for the 2026-2027 academic year, including tighter controls on firearms.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting and search for the suspect.
