South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo confirmed that the shooting occurred on Friday in the town of Banga but did not provide further details about the victims or the suspected shooter.
Police also confirmed the incident, but authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding the attack or identify the person responsible.
The Department of Education said it was deeply concerned about the reported shooting and the safety of students and staff at the school.
The incident comes after two other shootings at schools in the southern Philippines since June, raising concerns over a series of violent incidents in schools, which have historically been relatively uncommon in the country.
Last month, a student in Zamboanga livestreamed himself shooting and killing another student inside a classroom before taking his own life.
In June, three students were killed and about 20 others injured after two classmates reportedly opened fire at a public high school in Tacloban.
The Philippines has relatively strict laws governing firearm ownership, including background checks and psychological evaluations. However, authorities continue to face challenges over the circulation of illegal firearms.
The Banga shooting also comes shortly after a high-profile school shooting in Thailand in August, when a student reportedly went on a shooting rampage at a school on the outskirts of Bangkok.
