Nigerian Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has proposed that the Nigerian government should offer amnesty to criminal herdsmen engaged in banditry and kidnapping.

Gumi said the herdsmen are controlling large chunks of land and thus, hampering Nigeria’s economy.

He said this on Wednesday when he featured on ARISE NEWS’ Morning Show.

The bandits have been responsible for crimes including murder, rape and the kidnapping of schoolchildren across different parts of the country’s northern region.

Gumi who is widely accused of sympathising with terrorists, called for amnesty for the herdsmen who he says are ready to give up their arms of their demands are met.

He noted that herdsmen across regions of the country are lynched, killed and their children are sometimes decapitated.
