Terrorists on Tuesday night attacked the old National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving about five people feared dead and several others critically injured.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Conservator of the Park, Tesleem Kareem, said the NPS office was attacked by terrorists, adding that service personnel were among those killed during the assault.
“It is true we are in the process of evacuating the victims,” Kareem said, without giving further details on the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, also confirmed the incident. He disclosed that the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security chiefs were on their way to the affected area.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police has deployed additional officers to Oloka and its environs to prevent further breakdown of law and order, while efforts were ongoing to stabilise the situation and track down the perpetrators.
Security agencies are expected to provide more details as investigations continue.
