Action Alliance Presidential Aspirant, Joseph Oluwadare Faduri has said that Nigeria’s expensive political system is preventing the country from getting the best people to lead it, insisting that the Independent National Electoral Commission must obey court orders if the 2027 election is to be free and fair.
Speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Thursday, Faduri said the dominance of money in Nigerian politics is discouraging credible people from seeking public office and limiting the quality of leadership available to voters.
“Nigerian politics is so expensive that if we continue this way, we’re not going to get the best of people to run our nation, And one of the things that we’re trying to discourage in our politics is the politics of money.”
He said Nigeria also lacks a functioning opposition party capable of effectively challenging the government. “You would think that we have an opposition party in this country. But what we have is not an opposition party.”
Faduri said the country’s problems are largely linked to leadership at the highest level and argued that better leadership could improve conditions across the country. “And I realised that the problem we have is nothing but leadership in Asurok. If you have leadership at the top who can make things better, then everything in our country can be better.”
On the 2027 election, he said INEC must comply with court decisions to strengthen confidence in the electoral process. “We just need INEC to do what they need to do. Because if this election will be free and fair, so it means that INECmust first, you know, see to be obeying court orders.”
Faduri said the remaining time before the election is enough for political developments and legal issues to be resolved. “Three months is a lot of time. A lot of things can happen in three months.”
He also called on younger Nigerians to take greater responsibility for deciding the country’s political direction in 2027. “So let’s this younger generation now decide their country in 2027.”
On job creation, Faduri said Nigeria could generate millions of jobs by expanding local production and reducing dependence on imported vehicles. “Number two, we can get 15 million jobs for each of these countries in less than a year.”
He questioned why Nigeria continues to rely on overseas medical treatment when more hospitals and emergency services could be developed locally. “So why don’t we create more hospitals here? Why don’t we have more ambulances instead of papay buses? So that Nigerians can work.”
Faduri also explained his position on Peter Obi, saying he was no longer supporting him because he believed Obi would not be the presidential candidate on the ballot. “Mr. Peter Obi is not on the ballot. That’s why I’m not supporting him. The man on the ballot is Kwankwaso. It’s not Mr.Peter Obi.”
